Frank Kraushaar Sr. was born about 1836 in Prussia, Germany. He came to America and settled in the Jersey County, Illinois area in about 1860. He and his wife Julia were listed in the Jersey County, IL 1860 census for Richwood Township. The Kraushaar name is misspelled Krausse or Crouser in some of the old census and other records. The 1860 census said he was a shoemaker. He later became a farmer in the Fieldon, IL area. He died in Sept. 1879 on his farm near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Julia Anna Albert. Julia Anna Albert was a daughter of Michael Albert and Catherina Radtrioh and was born in 1842 in Bayern, Germany. She died about 1900 on farm near Fieldon, IL. They had 9 children--Frank Kraushaar Jr., Joseph Kraushaar, John Kraushaar, Charles Kraushaar (my mother's father), Anna Kraushaar, Rosa Kraushaar, Mary C. Kraushaar, Josephine Kraushaar, and Elizabeth Kraushaar. After my great grandfather Frank Kraushaar Sr's death his wife Julia (Albert) Kraushaar remarried to William Weisner 5-19-1881 and they had 2 daughters, half sisters to my mother's father, Catherine Weisner and Lena Weisner. (6) Frank and Julia (Albert) Kraushaar's daughter Rosina (Rosa) C. Kraushaar was born 6-17-1860 near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL, died 6-11-1928 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, married Bernard (Barney) F. Freand 11-19-1879 (sometimes spelled Freund or Friend). He was born 8-5-1857 and died 5-31-1930 in English Township, Jersey County, IL. Both are buried in Lax Cemetery in English Township. They had 10 children-Wilhelmena "Mena" Freand, John M. Freand, Henry M. Freand, Louis A. Freand, Viola Freand, Anna Freand, Clara Margaret Freand, Fannie Freand, Mary Kate Freand, and Elizabeth Louise Freand. ------------------- (1a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's daughter Wilhelmena "Mena" Freand was born 3-5-1889 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and she died in 1970 in Jersey County, IL at the age of 81. She married Andrew "Judd" Foster 11-7-1906 and they lived in Jerseyville, IL, and they had 4 children-2 daughters, Mrs. Trulbia White, Mrs. Helen Pritchard, and a son Truman Foster (1908-2001) all of Jerseyville, IL, and another son who preceded her in death. ------------------- (2a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's son John M. Freand was born 9-24-1878 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 3-1-1958 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried in Lax Cemetery in English Township. He married Lena Wieneke 6-25-1908, and they had a son Walter Freand. He later married Theresa T. Timpe born 10-16-1903, died 4-11-1948, the daughter of William and Laura (Giel) Timpe. They had these children-Ray H. Freand, Edward W. Freand, Carl L. Freand, Imogene M. Freand, Leroy H. Freand (deceased), died 11-26-1993, married Bernice A, Bridges 1-9-1947, Mildred M. Freand, and John Freand jr. who married Mary Lois (Newman) Griffin 2-7-1946. She was born in 1924, died 1-5-1972. She was the daughter of Walter Newman and Mrs. Oscar Frazer. They had these childen-Judy Freand who married Edward Hall of Godfrey, IL, Victoria (Freand) Cohill of Leweston, ID, Emery Grivvin and John Thomas Freand jr. of Oakhurst, OK, Eugene E. Freand of Idaho, Lee Roy Freand, and Gregory Lynn Freand. ------------------ (3a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's son Henry M. Freand was born in 1897 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died in 1972 in Jersey County, IL. He married Martha Mae Burch born 4-1-1911, and died 9-4-2005. They were married 4-2-1932. She was the daughter of Jacob and Emeline (Dunham) Burch and they lived in Kane, IL. ------------------ (4a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's son Louis (or Lewis) A. Freand was born 4-6-1895 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 5-6-1971 in Jersey County, IL. He married Ellen M. Burch 4-8-1918 the daughter of Jacob and Emeline (Dunham) Burch and lived in Jerseyville, IL. They had these children-Carl H. Freand married Janet Nickels; George L. Freand married Barbara A. Storey 1-2-1953; Nellie Freand; Ruby L. Freand married John H. Bailey 4-27-1933; and Frederick Freand (deceased), died 8-19-1997. He married Tracy (or maybe Tacy) Scott 3-10-1945. She was born in 1925 in Fieldon, Jersey County, IL, and died 4-23-1989 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, IL. She was the daughter of Jim and Elizabeth (Smith) Scott. They had 4 children-Frederick Freand, Ronnie Freand, Michael Freand, and and Rosie (Freand) Woelfe all of Jerseyville, IL. ---------------------- (5a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's daughter Viola Freand was born in 1904 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died in 1985 in Jersey County, IL. She married Arnold L. Freer Sr. 11-5-1936 and lived in Godfrey, IL, and she had a stepson Arnold L. Freer Jr. of Godfrey, IL. ----------------------- (6a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's daughter Anna Freand was born 12-13-1886 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 3-19-1953 in Jersey County, IL. She married Otto F. "Pete" Biederman 12-15-1906 and they lived in Jerseyville, IL. They had 4 children-Mrs. Lovie Leona (Biederman) Krause born 6-8-1912 in Jersey County, IL, and died 5-23-2004 in Jersey County, IL. She married Clarence George Krause and they had a daughter Rosemary Krause who married Hubert H. Ringhausen and lives in Jerseyville, IL. Other children of Otto and Anna (Freand) Biederman were Gladys (Biederman) Watts, and Edna Biederman who married Lewis Ballard and they all live in Jerseyville, IL, and a son Leo Biederman of Jerseyville, IL. ------------------------ (7a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's daughter Clara Margaret Freand was born in 1893 in English Township, Jersey County, IL married Alonzo Vincent Keown 7-3-1913 and they had 2 daughters-Florence Oletha Keown (1917-1919) who died in infancy, and Geneva (Keown) Koenig born 5-7-1923 near Kane, IL, died 9-5-2003 in Jerseyville, IL, married George Washington Koenig 3-31-1951 and they had a son George William Koenig. Alonzo and Clara (Freand) Keown are both buried in Lax Cemetery in English Township. -------------------------- (8a) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's daughter Fannie Christina Freand born in 1891 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, died in 1916 in Jersey County, IL. She was married 6-26-1913 to Thomas Edward Keown (1888-1968). They are both buried in Lax Cemetery in English Township. Thomas and Fannie (Freand) Keown had a son Hershel H. Keown born in 1915 and died in 1917. He died 2-18-1962 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. He was the son of Hugh Dunham (1844-1926) and Martha Ann (Seago) Dunham and they had 9 children-Edward Dunham, Otis Dunham, Lester Dunham, Robert Dunham, Lillie Dunham, Imogene Dunham, Ruth Dunham, Marjorie Dunham, and Nina Dunham. -------------- Mary Kate (Freand) Dunham's obituary - Mrs. Mary Kate Dunham, 65, wife of Otto Dunham of Jerseyville, Route 2, died at 8 p.m. Thursday In Alton Memorial Hospital. She had been a patient In the hospital only a few days. Mrs. Dunham was born Oct. 16, 1882 in Greene County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Barney Freand. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are five daughters, Mrs. Benton Mundy, Mrs. Harold Burch, Mrs. Chester Green and Mrs. Leslie Green, Jerseyville; Mrs. John Russell, Chesterfield, and four sons, Edward and Lester, Fleldon and Otis and Robert, Jerseyville. She also leaves three brothers, John and Louis Freamd, Jerseyville, and: Henry of Kane, and four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Gier, and Mrs. Judd Foster, Jerseyville, and Mrs. Anna Biederman and Mrs, Viola Freer, Godfrey; 29 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral rites will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m., In First Baptist Church, Jerseyville. Burial will be In Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville. She married William Chester Green. He died in 1971, and they lived in Jerseyville, IL. She died Feb. 9, 1953. She married William Bert Gier 11-11-1903. They had a daughter Edith Gier. ------------ Elizabeth Louise (Freand) Gier's obituary - Mrs. Elizabeth Louise Gier, 67, widow of W. Bert Gier, died Monday as she was being moved by ambulance to Boyd Memorial Hospital. Carrollton. Her death occurred at 3:15 p.m. in Carrollton. Mrs. Gier, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Barney Freand. was born Feb. 16, 1885, in Jersey County. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edith Schmittag of Jerseyville; three sisters, Mrs. Mena Foster, and Mrs. Anna Beiderman, Jerseyville, and Mrs. Arnold Freer, Godfrey; three brothers, John and Louis Freand, Jerseyville, and Henry of Fieldon; a granddaughter, Mrs. Barbara Oates and a grandson, Harvey Schmittag, and three great grandchildren. He was born in 7-15-1867 near Fieldon, English Township, in Jersey County, IL, and died 3-14-1920 in Jersey County, IL. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Dunham (1839-1916) and Selinda C. (Gibbs) Dunham. They are both buried in the Fieldon Cemetery, in Fieldon, IL. They had no children together. Mary C. (Kraushaar) Dunham had a daughter Lena M. Kraushaar (father's name unknown) previous to her marriage to John H. Dunham. Mary C. (Kraushaar) Dunham's daughter Lena M. Kraushaar was born in 1903 in Jersey County, IL, and died Dec. 18, 1936 in Jersey County, IL. She is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. She married Andrew A. Dunham, 89 years, 1 months, 6 days, of Jerseyville died April 29, at Watson Nursing Home where she had resided for quite some time. Mrs Dunham was a daughter of the late Frank & Julia (Albert) Kraushaar, and was born in Jersey County, March 23, 1867. She is survived by 1 sister, Mrs. Anna Carroll of Jerseyville, 2 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren. Her husband, John Dunham, preceded her in death. She married George and Katherine (Lenz) Hetzel's son Andrew A. Hetzel 9-12-1922 in Jersey County, IL. He was born in Jersey County, IL. He died 7-22-1985 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. Andrew and Lena (Kraushaar) Hetzel had 2 children-Edna Hetzel and Mary M. Hetzel. He was a Pvt. in the U.S. Army in World War I. Andrew Hetzel remarried after his first wife Lena (Kraushaar) Hetzel's death to Theresa Ahrling, daughter of Jacob and Johannah Ahrling. She was born jn 1910, and died 7-28-1991. She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. (Kraushaar) Hetzel's obituary - Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Hetzel were held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Evange1ical Church in Fieldon. The V. Leonard Todd officiated and interment was in the Fieldon cemetery. Mrs. Hetzel was the wife of Andrew A. Hetzel. and her death occurred Friday evening at her home in Fieldon. She was 33 years old. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mary Margaret and Edna Marie Hetzel and her mother, Mrs. Mary Dunham of Fieldon. --------------- Lena M. (Kraushaar) Hetzel's husband Andrew Albert Hetzel's 2nd wife Theresa (Ahrling) Hetzel's obituary - Theresa Hetzel died July 28 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. She retired after 21 years as a cook for Fieldon Grade School. Born in May 1910 in Jersey County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Johannah Ahrling. She married Andrew Hetzel. He died July 22, 1985. Surviving are a son Ed Hetzel of Jerseyville, seven daughters, Margaret Russell, Lena Miller, Theresa Hetzel, Edith Hill, Roberta Hetzel, Mary Lewis and Irene Hetzel both of Kansas; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A half sister Mary preceded her in death. Visitation is from 4 to 9 Tuesday at Jacoby/Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A funeral Mass is at 10 Wednesday at St Marys Catholic Church with the William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. (8) Frank and Julia (Albert) Kraushaar's daughter Josephine Kraushaar was born abt. 1871 near Fieldon, English Township, in Jersey County, IL, and she died in 1916. She married Albert V. Hughes 7-10-1892 in Jersey County, IL. He was born abt. 1862 and died in 1941. Albert and Josephine (Kraushaar) Hughes and their children lived in Piasa Township, Jersey County, IL during the 1900 and 1910 census. Children of Albert and Josephine (Kraushaar) Hughes were-Perry Oliver Hughes born in 1894; Sylvester Hughes born 24 Aug 1897, died Feb 1981 at Virden, Macoupin County, Illinois; Anna C. Hughes born in 1903; Frances M. Hughes born in 1907, died 1920; and Mary E. Hughes born in 1910. Albert and Josephine (Kraushaar) Hughes and their daughter Frances M. Hughes are all buried in the Gerard Township Cemetery, Gerard, Macoupin County, IL. Josephine Kraushaar's husband Albert V. Hughes was a son of Thomas E. Hughes, born Jan. 1833 in Jersey county, IL (who was a son of Joseph and Ester (Rolston) Hughes married in 1828), and Lucinda Rutherford born July 1841, a daughter of Joseph Rutherford, a native of Virginia. Albert V. Hughes' parents Thomas and Lucinda (Rutherford) Hughes were married in 1857. Thomas and Lucinda (Rutherford) Hughes were the parent's of 8 children-James H. Hughes born 1857, married 1st Annette Rice, married 2nd Sarah A. Chidester; Joseph A. Hughes born 1859, married Lenorah Smith; Albert V. Hughes born in 1862, married Josephine Kraushaar; Katurah Emeline Hughes born 1867, married 1st Frank Kraushaar, married 2nd Nicholas Albert, married 3rd James Ray; Thomas Hughes; Ella Hughes born 1875 married Bert Duckworth; Lucy Hughes; and another child name unknown. Albert V. Hughes's grandfather Joseph Hughes had a brother Samuel Hughes who married Jemima Warren in Todd county, KY in 1826. By 1836 they were in Jersey/Greene county, IL buying land. Joseph Hughes also married in Todd county, KY to Ester Rolston. They married in 1828, and ended up buying land near Samuel and Jemima in Illinois in 1836. Joseph Hughes had 3 other known brothers besides Samuel Hughes, William Hughes, Zachariah Hughes, and Thomas Hughes. Joseph Hawkins married Nancy Rolston in 1824 in Todd county, Ky and bought land near the Hughes brothers in Illinois in 1836. Joseph Hawkins oldest known daughter, Sarah Caroline Hawkins, married a John W. Hughes in Macoupin county, Illinois in 1850 and the two eventually moved to Lamar county, TX and lived next door to the widowed Jemima (Warren) Hughes and her children. Samuel Hughes died in Jersey county, Illinois in 1844 and Jemima went to Texas soon after. Jemima Warren's younger brother, Srewart B. Warren married Patsey Rutherford in 1835 in Greene county, IL, which is next to Jersey county. They also were living in Lamar county, TX, near sister Jemima Hughes in the 1860 and 1870 census. Many of Stewart Warren's descendents remained in Lamar county, TX. Albert V. Hughes's grandfather Joseph Hughes and and his grandmother Ester (Rolston) Hughes had 6 known kids, many of which raised their families in the Macoupin area. Both Joseph and Ester are buried in the Macoupin County Virden cemetery alongside many of their children's descendents. Also, Joseph Hawkins and Nancy Rolston settled in Macoupin county, and are enumerated in that 1850 census. Their oldest daughter, Sarah Caroline and her husband, John W. Hughes, lived with them. He farmed in the Fieldon, Jersey County, IL area. Frank Kraushaar Jr. married 1st Katurah Emeline Hughes 10 Jan 1883 in Jersey County, Illinois. Katurah Emeline Hughes was born abt. 1867. She was a daughter of Thomas and Lucinda (Rutherford) Hughes. Frank Kraushaar and Katurah Emeline Hughes must not have had children together, and divorced soon after the marriage. She remarried 5 years later to Nicholas Albert 15 May 1888 in Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois. Frank Kraushaar married 2nd to Ida Houseman bef. 1889. Ida Houseman was born in 1870, and died in 1904. She was buried in Houseman Cemetery in Jersey County, IL. Albert of Fidelity, died at her home Sunday, Dec. 3rd, at 9:15 a.m. at the age of 26 years, 8 months and 24 days. Her death was due to scarlet fever which she contracted while caring for her little daughter, Emily, who was ill of the disease. Mrs Albert had been ill only a few days, but the disease was of such character that medical aid was of no avail. Dr Hugh Russell Bohannan, 82, dean of Jerseyville doctors died Oct. 20, 1958 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton, where he had been a patient for the past 5 1/2 wks. Funeral services were held Oct. 22, at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev M. Edwards Breed officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. As a tribute of respect to the beloved citizen of Jersey county, business houses and offices in Jerseyville were closed during the hours of the huneral. Masonic rites were conducted Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Dr Bohannan was widely known for his unselfish service. The Jerseyville physician had entered the hospital Sept. 11, and the next day observed his 82nd birthday. The decedent was a son of the late Russell & Mary (Snell) Bohannan and was born Sept. 12, 1876 in Macoupin county. The greater part of his life was spent in Jersey county. The well-known Dr was a decendant of Dr Asa Snell, the first practicing physician in Jersey county, who came here in 1833 from Vermont. As a young man he taught in the rural schools of Jersey County and at Fidelity and Otterville. As soon as schools were dismissed for summer vacations he became a student and studied medicine at Illinois Medical College in Chicago. In 1904 he received his degree in medicine and for 8 months engaged in practice in Niotaza, KS, and then returned to Jersey County where for more than 50 years he ministered to several generations of families. Those who sought his medical aid knew that the fee would be small and in many cases the physician made no charge at all. Upon locating in Jerseyville he opened an office in the Snedeker building on N. State St., latter moving to quarters in the IOOF building where he remained for 39 years. In recent years Dr Boahnnan had offices over Kirby drug store. In 1953 Dr Bohannan was given community wide recognition as he began his 49th year of practice in Jersey county. A fund was started for a surprise gift for the physician and his many friends and patients were anxious to take part in the project. Because of his interest in sports it was decided to give him a television. When more money was received than the purchase price of the set, other gifts were purchased and presented to him. The following year Dr Bohannan and Dr F. N. Mclaren of White Hall were honored by the Jersey & Greene County medical societies as they marked their 50 years of practice. A dinner was held in Jerseyville in their honor and they were presented gold service pins and portable radios. When interviewed in 1953, Dr Bohannan estimated he had delivered about 1,800 babies. During his years of practice he had used many modes of travel to reach his patients. Until his illness, Dr Bohannan seldom missed a day at his office and for many years he had office hours 7 days a week and evening hours also. During the influenza epidemic in WWI the Jerseyville physician hardly had his clothes off for 5 wks, either day of night, while ministering to the victims of the malady. Dr Bohannan had been affiliated with Blue Lodge No 394, AF & AM, since May 23, 1898 and had received a 50 yr Masonic jewl. He had served as High Priest of the Royal Arch Chapter. He served continuously as a member of the Jerseyville Building Loan & Homestead Association since June 11, 1928, and at the time of his death was Vice President of the Jersey Savings & Loan Association Dr Bohannan had been affiliated with the Jersey County Medical Society for many years and was past president of the Society. He was married Aug. 12, 1917 to Agnes (Lenz) Bohannan of Jerseyville, who survives him. (Lenz) Atkinson's husband Clarence P. Atkinson was born Mar. 12, 1883 in Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois, and died in 1942. She was born in 1883, and died in 1966. --- From The History of Jersey County, page 503-504. - Atchison, Clarence P., who is one of the prominent and representative men in Jerseyville and well known all over Jersey County, was born at Jerseyville, Illinois, March 12, 1883. He is the son of Eldridge and Elizabeth (West) Atchison, the former who was born in Atchison County, Mo., in 1849, and the later some years later at Jerseyville. The parental grandfather, Peter Atchison was born in England and came to Jerseyville in 1860. The maternal grandparents were John and Mary (Hibiant) West, the former was born in Scotland and was a pioneer settler in Jersey County, Illinois, where he followed the trades of stonemason and plasterer. His wife was a native of Alsace Lorraine, France. Eldridge Atchison, father of Clarence P., was a well known resident of Jersey County, where he engaged in farming and butchering. He lived for a time in Delhi and later in Jerseyville, and in the earlier years drove a meat wagon through the country neighborhood. His death occurred at Jerseyville on July 03, 1916. His widow survives and resides in this city. Clarence P. Atchison attended the public schools of Jerseyville until he was fourteen years of age and then entered another kind of school – a printing office. He started at the bottom of the ladder in the Jerseyville County Democratic office and by 1901 had completed his apprenticeship. He continues with the same journal, having charge of the advertising department and the snappy editorials in the sporting department came from his pen. Mr. Atchison was married April 28, 1909 to Miss Josephine C. Lenz, who was born in English Township, Jersey County, and is the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Albart) Lenz. The father of Mrs. Atchison was born in Bren, Germany and the mother in the state of New York. From early manhood Mr. Atchison has been an interested student of politics and is rather prominently identified with the Democratic party in Jersey County, serving as secretary of the county central committee for the past six years, and he also provided exceedingly efficient as a city official serving for five years as alderman from the First Ward, as mayor pro-tem at times and in the spring or 1917 was elected to the office of city commissioner. His influence is also exercised in behalf of the city as a member of the executive committee of the civic branch of the Community Club. While business and politics largely engaged his attention, Mr. Atchison finds time to assist in promoting the interests of organizations of a general beneficial character. For two years he has served as secretary of the Jersey County Poultry Association and is a member of the poultry show committee. He is a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Jerseyville. Fraternally he belongs to the Knights of Columbus and also to the Modern Woodmen of America (M.W.A.), of which latter order he is present local banker and assistant district deputy, and from 1911 to 1916 inclusive, served as one of the order's counsel. The older Kortkamps are buried in the Alton, Illinois city cemetery. The Alton National cemetery is for soldiers, and Eberhardt's brother William E. Korkamp is buried there, he fought in the civil war, was wounded and died around 1900. He was one of "three brothers' that came over with Adolph Kortkamp around 1842, the other two are buried with Adolph and wife (and their wives). In the 1880 Godfrey, Madison Co., IL census Adolph is living with his younger son and his family. They all were part of the "Kortkamp coal mine" that ran in the late 1890s to abt 1916. She got pneumonia and passed away. Her sister Mary Bibb had lived with them and after Martha died, she went to St. Charles, MO to live, and George and his son Ray batched for a time. She was last listed in the 1920 census for Jersey Co., IL. I don't have any other information about Elizabeth. My mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall's grandfather Frank Kraushaar Sr. (1836-1879) committed suicide in Sept. 1879 at the age of 43, when her father Charles Kraushaar was only 4. His wife and children found his body in the woods on their farm after he hadn't come home for several days. My mother's grandmother Julia (Albert) Kraushaar remarried to William Weisner 5-19-1881 after her first husband Frank Kraushaar Sr's death. William Weisner was born 1-15-1842 in Wurtemberg, Germany, and died 11-12-1918 in Jersey Co., IL. His burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, English Township, Jersey Co., IL. She died in a tragic automobile accident 10-14-1922 at age 18. She was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. ---------------- Asa and Catherine (Weisner) Norris's daughter Anna Norris's obituary - Miss Anna Norris, 18 years of age, was instantly killed at eight-thirty o'clock Saturday evening in Jerseyville when an automobile in which she was riding collided with a horse and spring wagon driven by James Waters and Harvey Munde. The two young men are not residents of Jerseyville, but have been employed by Richard Voorhees, a farmer in Jersey County. Miss Norris was riding with her fiance, Russell Campbell, and was on her way to Whitehall where she and Campbell were to have been married Sunday afternoon. They were going to the home of Campbell's cousin, where the marriage ceremony was to have been performed. A heavy misty rain was falling that evening and Campbell's vision through the windshield was blurred so that he could not see the approaching horse and rig. The ordinances of the city of Jerseyville do not compel the owner of a rig to have lights, and it was impossible for Campbell to see the wagon. The horse was picked up by the front of Campbell's automobile and thrown on top of the car, the weight of the animal crushing the windshield, which caused the fracture of Miss Norris' skull just above the nose. Campbell escaped with only minor injuries, but he was rendered unconscious for several minutes. After regaining consciousness Campbell picked the girl up in his arms and carried her into the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Voorhees, where medical aid was summoned, but to no avail. The occupants of the wagon were thrown from the right, but neither was injured. The horse was severely cut and bruised and three shoes were torn from its feet. Campbell was taken from the scene of the accident to the home of his aunt in Jerseyville where he is said to be in a critical nervous condition. The coroner's inquest was conducted by Dr. B. M. Brewster of Fieldon, Sunday morning and the jury returned a verdict of death caused by a fractured skull. Miss Norris was the daughter of Mrs. Henry Shults, of Jerseyville, and she made her home with her mother and stepfather in the northeast part of the city. The engagement of Miss Norris and Campbell was known by her family and friends, but her immediate family was not aware of the fact that the girl had left home that evening for Whitehall, where she was to have been married the following day. Miss Norris was an employee of the International Shoe Company in Jerseyville and just a few ours preceding her death she had completed payment on furniture for her new home. She is survived by a sister, Miss Christine Norris, her mother, step-father and a half brother. Campbell and four Companions, Anthony Vahle, Edward Krueger, Leslie Bridges and Leo Tuchy, all of Jerseyville, have spent the summer in North Dakota in the harvest fields and Campbell and Vahle returned to Jerseyville only a few days before the accident. Campbell was 21 years of age and was the son of the late Charles Campbell, a prominent farmer of English township, Jersey County. The death of Miss Norris is the third in the Shults family within less than six months. In April, Mr. and Mrs. Shults lost twin daughters, nine months of age. Their deaths were due to pneumonia. The funeral of Miss Norris will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Baptist church of which she was a member. Rev. Joseph Jenkins will officiate and the interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery beside the Shults twins, half sisters of the deceased. She was born Nov. 17, 1942, in Jerseyville to William H. Shults and Ethel Mae (Boomer) Shults McGowen. A 1960 graduate of Jersey Community High School, she began working at Rudolph's Department Store in Jerseyville, where she and her future husband both worked. After her marriage, she elected to stay home and care for her family. She enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, reading a book a day, and especially enjoyed decorating, a hobby that was enhanced by assisting her daughter at the Red Rooster in Jerseyville. She married James K. Rench Dec. 28, 1963, in Waterloo and they have shared and enjoyed 39 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter, Penny Rench of Jerseyville; a nephew and his wife, Robert and Bev Schneider of Jerseyville; and her mother-in-law, Lois Rench of Hillsboro. Born June 18, 1928, in otter Creek Township, Jersey County, he was a son of the late George F. and Lena (Cope) Frazer. The World War II U.S. Army veteran was employed with Illinois Bell Telephone in Alton, where he worked for 18 years as an automotive technician, retiring in 1988. In addition to being a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, he was a very diverse handyman who enjoyed his woodworking, where he restored and refinished antique furniture. As a lover of nature, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and was a dedicated hunter and finder of mushrooms. He was a member of Moose Lodge 695 and a member for more than 50 years of the American Legion Post 492, both of Jerseyville. He and the former Phyllis J. Goeman were married Sept 7, 1979, in Jerseyville. She survives. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Nov. 20, 1968, and was one of two children born to Ronald and Bernice (Goeman) Guilander. Rhonda was blessed with loving parents, and enjoyed living the country life, from being raised on the family farm and in time, choosing to raise her family on the farm as well. She began collecting dolls from an early age, and enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was fishing, mushrooming, biking, 4-wheeling, working on "show" cattle, or handling any duty necessary around the farm. Her indoor joys included reading, jigsaw puzzles, and cake decorating. She thoroughly enjoyed having family gatherings, and needed no excuse to have friends and family together, and those gatherings were enhanced by Rhonda's unique cakes, decorating and entertaining skills. She graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1986, and earned both her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. From an early age, Rhonda declared her desire to be like her Mother and become a teacher, so, after obtaining her degree, she pursued her dream and accepeted a position teaching kindergarten at Grafton Elementary in 1990, and remained through the end of the school year during the Flood of 1993. The following fall, she transfered to East Elementary in Jerseyville, and then in 2005 to West Elementary where she taught first grade. For over 26 years, Rhonda was an outstanding educator with Jersey Community Unit School District #100, and took great pride in her love and dedication to her students. Most importantly, Rhonda was a loving farm wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, homemake, and a "mother of kids from other mothers," and truly was a friend to all. A faithful Christian woman, she was a member of the Fieldon United Church of Christ, where she attended regularly and presented awesome "Children's Moments" during Sunday services, as well as serving as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School instructor, and even found time to serve on numerous committees. On June 23, 1990, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Rhonda married the love of her life, Kerry Hall. The newlyweds would soon move into the house on one of the Gulander farms where Rhonda had grown up in rural Kane. Their entire 27 years of married life was spent in that home, where they raised and loved and cherished their three gifts from God. Their home was filled with love and happiness, and could be counted on at Christmas time to be decked out with an amazing array of lights, celebrating the birth of Christ, and beaming with Christmas cheer. Rhonda's goal in life was to raise a family and provide a loving and happy home, and she succeeded far beyond her imagination. A graduate of Hardin High School, Paul served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he became engaged in farming on the Helen Beach Farm and later was a self employed carpenter working until 2000 where he suffered a stroke. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and was former member and deacon at the Bethany Baptist Church in Jerseyville. She was born in a log cabin near Fieldon, Illinois on Aug. 7, 1952, and was the daughter of Paul W. and Joan (Devening) Long. Donna was a lady who enjoyed being around people, and people enjoyed being around her. She was upbeat, always smiling, and eager to greet you with a big hug. A 1970 graduate of Jersey Community High School, she was employed as a Dietary Manager at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home and Greenwood Manor West, both in Jerseyville. After her retirement, she and Bob spent a majority of their time camping. She married Robert L. Daniels on January 30, 1970 at the Kane Baptist Church and they have been blessed with 49 years of marriage.
