Jasper Westfall

My father's brother Jasper "Jap" Westfall was born April 13, 1907 in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL, the son of Jasper Mifflin Westfall and Frances (McCaulley) Westfall. He died 10-19-1997 In Alton, Madison County, IL. He was buried in the Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton, Illinois. He was raised on his father Jasper Mifflin Westfall's farm south of Fieldon, Jersey County, IL with his brothers and sisters-my father Walter Edward Westfall, Alonzo Westfall, Floyd Westfall, Laura Westfall, and Anna Westfall. He married 1st Ruth McNish who was born 3-22-1911 in Missouri, and died 8-5-1974 at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, Illinois. She was the daughter of Michael Lee McNish and Martha Elizabeth (Owens) McNish. Jasper and Ruth (McNish) Westfall had 3 sons Jasper Westfall Jr, Matthew Westfall, and Charles Lee Westfall.

Before her marriage to Uncle Jasper, Aunt Ruth had a daughter Marie born 12-21-1927. Marie married James Webb, and they had a son James Webb. Marie died 10-14-1946 at age 18 in childbirth. She was buried in Grimes-Neely Cemetery West of Jerseyville, Illinois. My Uncle Jasper Westfall farmed in the Fieldon, IL area.

My father's brother Jasper Westfall remarried after his first wife Ruth (McNish) Westfall's death to Helen Goldia Ruckman (1907-2002) 6-23-1975 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Frank and Stella (Gelkerson) Ruckman. She was married before to Charles H. Pilger. He died in 1969. She had a son Jack Bailey of Meadowbrook, IL.

Jasper Westfall's 2nd obituary - Jasper Westfall died Oct. 19, 1997 at Saint Anthonys Health Center in Alton. Born April 13, 1907 in Fieldon, he was a son of the late Jasper and Frances McCaulley Westfall. He was a self-employed farmer in the Fieldon area until he retired. He married the former Helen Ruckman Bailey on June 23, 1975, in Bethalto. She survives. Also surviving are a stepson and his wife, Jack and Norma Bailey of Bethalto; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Matthew Westfall and Jasper Westfall Jr; two sisters, Laura Coleman and Anna Griffin, and three brothers, Lonnie Westfall, Edward Westfall and Floyd Westfall preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. The Rev. Willard Meyer will conduct services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Alton where Westfall was a member. Burial will be in Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.

My Uncle Jasper Westfall's first wife Ruth Josephine (McNish) Westfall's obituary - Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Josephine Westfall of 636 Oakwood Ave., in Alton were conducted bt Reverand Dorcie Hill at the Healing Waters Temple Aug. 7. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She passed away at the age of 63 at St. Lukes Hospital in St. Louis on Aug. 5, 1974. She was born March 22, 1911 in Missouri, the daughter of Michael McNish (mother's name unknown). Survivors include her husband Jasper Westfall; two brothers, Allen McNish and Weltz NcNish of Missouri; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Emilie) Andrews of Kansas and Mrs. Maude Winters of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, a daughter, a son and one granddaughter.

My uncle Jasper Westfall's 2nd wife Helen Goldia (Ruckman) Westfall's obituary - Helen Goldia Westfall, 95, died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Eldercare Nursing Home in Alton. She was born May 28, 1907, in Alton to Frank and Stella (Gelkerson) Ruckman. She married Charles H. Pilger in 1937 in Alton. He died June 14, 1969. She married Jasper Westfall June 23, 1975, in Bethalto. He died Oct. 19, 1997. She was employed at Walnut Grove Dairy in Alton for several years, did volunteer work at McArthur Senior Center for 25 years and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto of several senior centers. Her love of fishing and traveling will long be remembered. Surviving are a son and his wife, Jack and Norma Bailey of Meadowbrook; three grandchildren, Sharon Bailey of Witt, Ill., Aaron Bailey of Worden and Eric Bailey of Alton; three great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Dylan Bailey of Worden and Alax Bailey of Alton; other extended family; and many dear friends. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lemuel Ruckman, and twin sisters, Millie Scribner and Lillie Ruckman. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elias-Smith Funeral Homes and Crematory in Bethalto, and will continue at 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. Pastor Willard Meyer will officiate. Private burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church building fund.

(Note: Helen Goldia (Ruckman) Westfall's father Frank L. Ruckman was born January 30, 1879 in West Alton, St. Charles County, MO, and died October 30, 1956 in Alton, Madison, IL. He married Stella Gilkerson November 18, 1901. She was born October 24, 1881 in Pattensburg, Davies County, MO, and died February 10, 1935 in Alton, Madison, IL. Helen Goldia (Ruckman) Westfall's grandfather Lemuel Thomas Ruckman died Dec. 1905, age 58, in Alton, Madison County, IL. He was a Civil War veteran. He married Emma Belle Scott September 12, 1876 in St. Charles Co., MO. She was born October 14, 1854 in KY, and died June 04, 1885 in West Alton, St. Charles County, MO. Lemuel Ruckman's obituary - Lemuel Ruckman, a veteran of the Civil War and a former resident of Missouri Point, died Sunday morning at 2 o'clock after an illness of a few days with pneumonia at his home on Belle St. He was in his 58th year and had lived in the vicinity of Alton almost all of his life. He was a native of Milville, N.J. He leaves his wife and seven children. The funeral was held today from his home on Belle St. to West Alton, the funeral party taking the 1 o'clock train across the river. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. George Bailey and burial was in the West Alton Cemetery.)

Jasper Westfall's stepson and his 2nd wife Helen G. (Ruckmann) Pilger Westfall's son Jack A. Bailey's obituary - Jack A. Bailey, 82, passed away at 10:48 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville with his family by his side. He was born on Feb. 10, 1930, in Alton, the son of Helen G. (Ruckmann) Pilger Westfall. He married Norma J. Schulte on March 18, 1960, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. She survives. Jack served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1950 and in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1952. He was employed by A.O. Smith and later retired from Clark Oil Refinery. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Fleet Reserve Association Chapter 267 and the Bethalto Senior Citizens in which he was involved in the pinochle club. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, bowling, reading and was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon A. Bailey of Kincade, Ill.; two sons, Aaron L. Bailey of Worden and Eric L. Bailey of Altonl; and three grandchildren, Lindsey Bailey, Dylan Bailey and Alax Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 9 until funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastor Mark Hofferber officiating. He died Friday, August 31, 1973 at the Wood River Township Hospital in Madison County, IL. He was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, Illinois. He married Frances Ethel Talley 8-1-1949 in Jersey County, IL, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Parker) Talley. After Jasper died on August 31, 1973 Frances married Bobby Crumley on January 5, 1974. Her 2nd husband Bobby Crumley died July 23, 2008.

Jasper and Ruth (McNish) Westfall's son Jasper Allen Westfall Jr's obituary - Jasper Allen Westfall, 43, of 225 Mounier, Alton, died Friday, August 31, 1973 at the Wood River Township Hospital. He was employed at Owens Illinois as a painter for 23 years. Mr. Westfall was born July 12, 1930, in Jersey County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Westfall Sr., now of Alton. On August 1, 1949, he married the former Frances Talley. Surviving are his wife, Frances (Talley) Westfall; three sons; Allen, Terry and Harry all of Alton; three daughters, Mrs. William (Jeanne) Merideth, Peggy and Sandy all of Alton; a brother, Mathew Westfall; two grandchildren. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, the Rev. A.J. Maggos officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

The marriage ended in divorce in 1996. They had two children; Melissa Renee' Merideth and Jason Lee Merideth. She married Dennis Dean Lacy on September 26, 2002.

The marriage ended in divorce in 1994. They had one child; Joshua Allen Ross born on October 13, 1992. She married Scott Allan Schonaski on June 17, 1995.

(2aa) William E. Merideth and Gloria Jean "Jeanne" (Westfall) Merideth Lacy's son Jason Lee Merideth was born on December 22, 1970. He married Gloria Ann Villareal on October 22, 1994.  The marriage ended in divorce in 1997. They had one child; Selena Marie Merideth born on February 17, 1997.

The marriage ended in divorce in 1976. They had one child; Jeremiah Allen Westfall. He married Sheila Elizabeth Forsythe on July 2, 1977. They had two children; Allen Lee Westfall Jr. and Lance Aaron Westfall.

(1aa) Allen Lee Westfall and Sheila Elizabeth (Forsythe) Westfall's son Allen Lee Westfall, Jr. was born on August 20, 1979. He married Bobbie Hornsey on June 4, 1999. The marriage in divorce in 2002. They had one child; Bethany Robin Westfall born on August 19, 1998. He married Kimberly Meletti. She has two sons Jeremy Meletti and Ryan Rauscher.

(2aa) Allen Lee Westfall and Sheila Elizabeth (Forsythe) Westfall's son Lance Aaron Westfall was born on July 14, 1983. He married Brandy Torres on September 7, 2002. The marriage ended in divorce.

She died February 22, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. Her burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. She married Joseph Allen Rittenhouse on December 1, 1990. He died in 1996.

Peggy Ann (Westfall) Rittenhouse's obituary - ALTON – Peggy Ann (Westfall) Rittenhouse, 62, died at 10:43 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis,, MO after a long and courageous battle with her health. Peggy was born on January 10, 1955, one of six children born to the Jasper Allen Westfall Jr. & Frances (Talley) Westfall. She was a lifelong resident of Alton and graduated with the class of 1974 from Alton High School. After High School, she went on to further her education at Lewis & Clark Community College. She married Joseph Allen Rittenhouse on December 1, 1990, and together they were married for 5 years before their time was cut all to short with Joe’s death in January of 1996. Peggy worked as a cook for many years at various locations throughout the Alton area including the VFW Post 1308, prior to its closing, at which time she began working at Fountains IV in Godfrey, where she retired as Head Cook in 2014 after several years of service. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed sewing and embroidery, reading a good book, planting flowers outside her home and enjoying a good scary movie. It was her family, however, who brought Peggy the most joy in life. Her brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, and most especially her mother, provided Peggy with many wonderful memories and blessings throughout her life and her love and compassion for them all is something they will never forget. Surviving are her mother, Frances Westfall Crumley of Alton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanne & Dennis Lacy of Jerseyville and Sandra & Ahmed Maragha of Plainfield, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen & Beth Westfall of Alton and George Terry & Julie Westfall of Godfrey; a step-sister, Linda Zaganelli; 6 nieces; 6 nephews; 4 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews; as well as 1 great-great niece and 2 great-great nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Jasper Allen Westfall Jr; a brother, Harry Jasper Westfall; as well as her step-father, Bob Crumley. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral Services will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Charity Christian Center in Jerseyville with burial following at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville. Terry George Westfall's 1st wife Christel Y. (Sundberg) Westfall Berry's obituary - Christel Y. Berry, 59, passed away at 2:38am on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at her residence. She was born on June 19, 1959, in Alton, the daughter of the late Roland and Yvonne (Petersson) Sundberg. Survivors include four daughters and two sons in law: Jennifer and Joe Haselhorst of Bethalto, Lindsey Burton and Stephen De Bleyzer II of Bethalto, Samantha Basham of Cottage Hills, Doni Basham of Bethalto, eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Brayden, Kynleigh, Lilly, Grace, Blaze, Caelen, Alivia, four brothers and three sisters in law: Kenneth and Billie Sundberg of Godfrey, Glenn and Karen Sundberg of Independence, Missouri, Carey and Debbie Sundberg of The Colony, Texas, Sven “Junior” Sundberg, a sister and brother in law: Monica and Brent Qualls, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Christel was formerly employed as a dental assistant for Dr. Merkle. She then worked in direct support at Residential Options and Beverly Farm. She attended River of Life Church in Alton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Tony. In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of her life, memorial visitation will be from 10am until time of reflection at 12pm on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Private inurnment will be at a later date at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Terry George Westfall and his 1st wife Christel Y. (Sundberg) Westfall Berry's daughter Jennifer Dawn (Westfall) Haselhorst's husband Joseph David Haselhorst's mother Jeanine A. "Jean" (Pohlman) Haselhorst Weaver's obituary - Jeanine A. "Jean" (Haselhorst) Weaver, 75, passed away at 1pm on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at her residence. She was born on January 17, 1938, in Brussels, Illinois the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Forstchneider) Pohlman. She married Lester Haselhorst in October of 1960 in Brussels, Illinois and he preceded her in death in 1979. She then married J. Glenn Weaver on November 8, 1986, in Rosewood Heights and he survives. She was formerly employed at Target in Alton for over 15 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Holy Angels Parish in Wood River. She was a volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital gift shop for many years. Her greatest joy in life was gathering with her family and making memories with the ones that she loved. In addition to her parents and her first husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Kathy Haselhorst, five sisters: Amelia Springman, Ida Haselhorst, Rita Patterson, Laverne Roth, Esther Woods, and a brother: George Pohlman. In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River with a prayer service at 1:30pm on Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, March 18, 2013, at Holy Angels Parish in Wood River. Father James Flach will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony's Foundation.

They had five children; Nadia Ahmed Maragha born January 5, 1990; Rhonda Ahmed Maragha born on December 15, 1992, Sarah Salah Maragha born on July 5, 1994; Farrah Ahmed Maragha born on August 12, 1999; and Mahmoud "Moudy" Ahmed Maragha born on June 22, 2001.

Frances (Talley) Westfall Crumley's 2nd husband Bobby Lee Crumley's obituary - Bobby Lee Crumley, 71, died at 8:22 p.m. on Wednesday July 23, 2008, at St. Louis University Hospital. He was born July 14, 1937, in Elco, Ill., the son of Archie and Hester Meisenhimer Crumley. He married Frances Talley Westfall January 5, 1974, and she survives. He retired in July 1999 after 40 years at Olin Corporation in the storeroom Department T-400. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Jerseyville Moose. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

He is also survived by two daughters, Lisa Davis and her sons Ryan and Zach Davis of Wood River, and Linda Brickhouse and her son Alex of East Alton; two step-sons, Allen Westfall and his wife Beth of Alton and their children Lance Westfall and Allen Jr. and his wife, Kim of Alton, and their children Jeremy Meletti and Ryan Rauscher and daughter Bethany Westfall, George "Terry" Westfall and his wife Julie of Godfrey and their daughter Jennifer Haselhorst and her husband Joe; three stepdaughters, Jeanne Lacy and her husband Dennis of Jerseyville, and their children Missy and her husband Scott Schonasky and their son Josh, Jason Merideth and his daughter Selena, Peggy Rittenhouse, and Sandy Maragha and her husband Ahmed of Plainfield, and their children, Nadia, Rhonda, Sarah, Farrah and Moudy; a brother Don Crumley and his son Donny and his wife Olivia.

Born April 18, 1939, in Alton, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Eva A. (Bedwell) Vail. He married the former Josephine Scott on Aug. 26, 1967, in Jerseyville. She survives. He grew up in Alton and in 1961, at the age of 22, began a 27-year career with the U.S. Army. During the course of those years, he served in many locations, taking his family whenever he could to various parts of Germany and to Fort Leonard Wood, as well as other parts of the United States. He also served during the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1987, with the rank of staff sergeant. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Josephine "Snooks" and Mark Westfall of Jerseyville; a son, Paul E. Vail Jr. of Jerseyville; three grandchildren, Matthew, Alexandra and Zachary Westfall; two brothers, James A. Vail of Jerseyville and Charles Vail of Bethalto; and a sister, Eva Lee of Jacksonville, Ill. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Nolan and Robert Vail, and a sister, Rosella Wallace. He was born in St. Louis, MO on December 2, 1948, one of three children born to the late Louis & Marie (Fisk) Jantzen. Steve grew up in the St. Louis area, graduating in 1967 from Ladue High School and went on to further his education at the University of Missouri, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He began his career with ACF working in St. Charles, MO & Pennsylvania before starting his own firm, Jantzen Engineers, which he owned and operated for over 25 years with his own consulting firm, retiring in 2014. He married the former Mary Jean (Swan) Hale on January 15, 1993 at the Jersey County Courthouse and together they built their home in Jerseyville, where they have resided for the past 23 years. Steve was committed to his work and a true dreamer and philosopher, which led him to hold deep admiration for Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King Jr., Einstein, Ghandi and George Carlin. He was also an entrepreneur and open many ideas on conserving energy. He held many patents and was responsible, at one time, for the state of the art rerailer boom with Spandeck (now Warnata) in Tennessee as well as a pressure aid car at ACF Industries. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the guitar and spending time with his many friends, many of which referred to him affectionately as “Bearhead”. Most importantly, he was devoted to his family and being a loving Pops & Poppy to his twelve grandchildren. Uncle Floyd was born 4-26-1914 in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL, the son of Jasper Mifflin Westfall and Frances (McCaulley) Westfall. He died 6-3-1991 in Gillespie, Macoupin County, IL. He was born and raised on his father Jasper Mifflin Westfall's farm south of Fieldon, Jersey County, IL with his brothers and sisters-my father Walter Edward Westfall, Alonzo Westfall, Jasper Westfall, Laura Westfall, and Anna Westfall. He married Bertha E. Wanick (born 7-25-1918, died July 28, 2008) on 6-15-1935, and they had 2 children-Floyd Jr. (Sonny), and JoAnn. Bertha is the daughter of Julius and Lula Cornelius Wanick, and has 3 sisters-Alberta, Martha, and Mary (deceased), and one brother Robert. Bertha's father Julius Wanick was born in Taylorville, IL and was the son of John and Rose Ann (Hatfield) Wanick. John Wanick was a Civil War Veteran, and is buried in the Taylorville area. Floyd Jr. (Sonny) is buried in Grimes-Neely Cemetery 4 miles west of Jerseyville, Illinois on Illinois State Route 16.

She married on 10-16-76 William George (born 7-21-58) the son of Dale Debolt (born 12-26-36) and Lieta (Bartram) (born 9-11-40). Lieta's parents were George William Bartram and Esther Mae (Monroe) Bartram. Brenda's husband William (Bill) was killed in a tractor rollover March 24, 2007 on their farm they had bought 3 months earlier in Southwest Missouri. Brenda sold the farm where he was killed and bought a new house in town in Neosho, MO.

William and Brenda had 4 daughters-Jeannie Lynn, Angela Dawn, Shelly Renae, and Sara Mae.

They are the parents of 2 sons Quintin Luke Mullen born-11-11-99, and Caleb Floyd Mullen born 1-29-02, and 2 daughters Reagan Marie Mullen born 6-9-04, and Carrington Elise Mullen born 9-19-2008. They live in Springdale, Arkansas.

(2aa) William and Brenda's second daughter Angela Dawn was born 11-7-80. She married Michael Lee Carroll on 11-14-98 and they have 2 daughters Ana Jewel Carroll born 8-8-2000, and Natalie Grace Carroll born 12-15-02. They live in Springdale, AR.

(3aa) William and Brenda's daughter Shelly Renae was born 11-30-82. She married Keith Sayers 2-15-2008 and they have 2 sons Noah William Sayers born 7-29-10 and Aiden Eli Sayers born 11-10-2011. They live in MO.

He died suddenly of cardiac arrest. After Donald Westfall's death his wife Deloris remarried to Leon Stone in 1985. Deloris died 11-15-2001 in Alton, IL after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL.

Dody graduated from Plymouth High School in 1955, and then spent the summer playing the bass fiddle on Block Island, R.I., where he met his future wife. Dody then joined the U.S. Air Force as a radar operator. Upon leaving the Air Force, he furthered his education by attending Berkley Preparatory School in Boston, Mass., and Bedford Institute of Technology in New Bedford, Mass. Dody and Raine moved to Florida, where he went to work for GTE. He retired as a system engineer in 1997. Since retirement, as well as throughout his life, he has played the bass fiddle for several bands. He most recently participated with the Swing Sound Orchestra, The Sun City Center Big Band, The Ten O' Clock Band and the Blue Notes. A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2011, at Bethel Assemblies of God, 1510 W. Hillsborough Ave., Tampa.
