GODFREY - Katherine E. Powers, 49, formerly of Jerseyville ,passed away at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2014, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton Born April 8, 1965, in Jerseyville, the daughter of the late James D. Fessler and Juanita (Hopper) Fessler of Jerseyville, who survives. She married Noel Powers on Oct. 21, 1995, in Jerseyville. She worked in Housekeeping and Food Service at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, where she had many special friends. She was a member of 1st United Methodist Church in Godfrey, where she loved to teach Sunday School. Survivors include husband, Noel Powers of Godfrey; daughter, Katie Powers of Godfrey; mother, Juanita Fessler of Jerseyville; sister, Becky Fessler of Jerseyville; and companion, Gary Kirby; brother, Danny and Lisa Fessler of Jerseyville; grandmother, Mary Fessler of Dorsey; mother-in-law, Carol Powers of Alton; brother-in-law, Greg Powers of Alton; sister-in-law, Dana and Wayne King of Godfrey; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceded in death by father; grandparents, Glenn and Edna Hooper, and James H. Fessler, and father-in-law, Bill Powers; and special great nephew. RICHARD 'RICH' WAKEFORD, ALTON - Richard "Rich" Wakeford, 76, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born July 25, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Edison R. and Relpha R. (Harris) Wakeford. Mr. Wakeford retired in 1997 after over 45 years of service as a renowned self-employed painter/wall paper hanger as well as working for various other contractors. He was a founder and honorary member of the Alton Motorboat Club. On Dec. 23, 1983, he married the former Dawn Witt. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Laura D. Read (John) of San Antonio, Texas, Kelly L. Schwartz (Paul J.) of Jasper, Ind., Michelle L. Dunham (Jim) of Alton, and Melodee S. Ruyle of Bethalto, two sons, Mark R. Wakeford (Ann Pier) of Lebanon, and William "Rusty" Ruyle (Mary) of Medora; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Frakes (Ron) of Grand Blanc, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jean Wakeford; and a granddaughter, Heidi S. Milner. Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor Julie Gvillo and Chaplain Colonel John Read will speak. 16 August 1973: Funeral services were held at the Hope Lutheran church at two o'clock Sunday afternoon for James Blaine Purcell of R. R. 2, Jerseyville. Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. The death of Mr. Purcell occurred at two-fifty o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been a patient for ten days. Mr. Purcell, a native of Letcher County, Kentucky, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James E. Purcell. His age at the time of death was sixty-one years, two months, and nine days. He was a construction worker. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Purcell; five sons, James E. of Dow, Joseph A., John E. and Jerry Lee of Jerseyville; and Jewell B. of Carrollton; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Doris) Hacklewood of Kingsport, Tenn., and Mrs. Charles L. (Judith) White of Jerseyville; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Flora Goins of Kingsport and Agnes Hilton of Clinchport, Tenn.

James Edward Purcell, 76, died at 2:10 p.m., December 29, 2014, at his home. Born February 27, 1938, in Alton, Ill., the son of Hugh Arrington aka James "Blaine" Purcell and Myrtle L. (Eden) Purcell, both preceded him in death. He married Lucinda "Cindy" Field on July 21, 1963, in Jerseyville. She died Sept. 9, 2008. He retired in May 1998, as Expeditor with McDonnell-Douglas/ Boeing and was a member of FBI Club. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia and Egan Harder of Vestal, N.Y.; five grandchildren, a sister, Judy and Charles White of Jerseyville; brothers Joe and Darlene Purcell of Jerseyville, John and Debra Purcell of Jerseyville, Jewel "Butch" and Sandy Purcell of Jerseyville and Jerry and Renee Purcell of Jerseyville. Preceded in death by parents; wife; son, Randy L. Purcell; infant sister, Joyce Purcell. The obituary of a relative of one my high school classmates who graduated with me in 1961 from Jersey Community High School, Thomas Malloy's brother James Edward Malloy.
James Edward Malloy, 64, died at 3:34 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville after a period of declining health. He was born in Jerseyville on June 12, 1947, and was one of six children born to the late Robert O. and Eva Lena (Ritter) Malloy. Jim graduated in 1966 from Jersey Community High School, and was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served overseas during the Vietnam War. For many years, Jim was employed as a salesman at Jersey County Motors in Jerseyville, and later became a cook at the former Greenwood Manor West Nursing Home. He also assisted as a daytime bartender at Sammy's Lounge as well as volunteer bartender at various clubs in town. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Jerseyville American Legion Post 492, where he has served as their past commander, and just enjoyed being around family and friends having a good time and taking joyrides. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and musically, loved the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and would watch anything with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood, Three Stooges, M*A*S*H, or the Jackson Barrett Auctions.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy (Madson) Malloy of Jerseyville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Mike Plummer of Kane, and Jennifer and Greg Rawe of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, Bailey and Kaylee Plummer of Kane, and Myra and Gabriel Rawe of Jerseyville; a sister, Sharon Shanks of Jerseyville; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Janet Malloy of Altus, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews, including those local, Marsha Lott and Patty Sweeney, both of Jerseyville, Tom Malloy of Godfrey, Mike Malloy of Jerseyville, and Jera Stobaugh of Altus, Okla.; great-nieces and nephews and their spouses, DeWayne and Cheryl Lott of Jerseyville, Adam and Beth Lott of Otterville, Ryan Lott of Marion, Kristy Lott of Jerseyville, Natasha and Tim Harmon and Alexis Sweeney all of Jerseyville; great-great-nephews and a niece, Walker and Mason Lott and Samantha and Hayden Lott. Rita L. (Killion) Petrik, 66, died on Sunday, July 26, 2009. Dear wife of the late Phillip A. Petrik; dear mother of Jeff C. Ila Marie (Vanausdoll) Laubscher, 84, died at 5:38 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. She was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Grafton to Otis and Cassandra (Heath) Vanausdoll. She married Harold Lee Laubscher Aug. 24, 1962, in Wood River. He survives. They have spent the last 40 years together. A lifelong resident of Grafton, she was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton and the Royal Neighbors. She was a 25-year employee of Owens Illinois Glass Co., retiring as a crew leader.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Louise (Hayes) Baecht of Grafton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Rae Hayes and Gary and Ann Hayes, all of Grafton, and Bryon Laubscher of Collinsville; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ray Vanausdoll of Shipman and Tim Vanausdoll of Cordell, Okla. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Olney Freeman Hayes; a son-in-law, Edward Joseph Baecht; an infant grandson, Zachary Baecht; four brothers, Chester, Robert, Jack and Daniel Vanausdoll; and two sisters, Geraldine Rowling and Cassie Watson. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton, where a Mass will be said at noon Wednesday. Father Bob Meyer will officiate. Melba Dale Lasher, 91, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Leesburg. She was born Sept. 19, 1917, in Jerseyville to Lawrence B. and Ruth G. (Cornelius) Keehner. Her marriage to Ralph Lasher took place Nov. 8, 1941, in Baltimore, Md. He died Aug. 14, 1992. Before retiring, she previously co-owned and operated Don's Snack Restaurant with her husband for more than 20 years in Jerseyville. She was a member of the Worldwide Church of God. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Don W. and Sharon Lasher of Herndon, Va.; grandchildren, Jocelyn Lasher and Angela Hyte; and great-grandchild, Ava Donne Hyte. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from 9 until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Merwin Eldon Brakeville, born 23-12-1919, Eldred, Greene County, Illinois, died 05-18-1959, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Merwin Eldon Brakeville, 39 yrs, 4 mo, 25 days, a resident of Jerseyville, died May 18, 1959 at Barnes hospital in St. Louis where he had been a medical patient for the past week. Mr Brakeville, a welder at Laclede Steel, suffered from a heart malady and had not been able to work since the middle of January. He had been hospitalized at Jersey Community hospital prior to his removal to Barnes. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev J. Dan Moore officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Brakeville was born in Eldred, Dec. 23, 1919, a son of Leonard & Magdalene (Murphy) Brakeville. He was a WWII veteran. Surviving aare his wife, Helen (Ringhausen) Brakeville; 4 Sons, Dallas, William, Ronald and Gregory, and 1 daughter, Sandra all of whom reside at home; his father and step mother, Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Brakeville of Cottage Hills; his mother, Mrs. Arthur Grantham and his step father, Mr. Grantham of Carrollton; 1 brother, Walter Brakeville of Godfrey, 1 half sister, Mrs Raymond Ezell of Godfrey and 1 step brother, Edward Meisenheimer of Cottage Hills.

The obituary of a relative of my grade school classmates who attended Pleasant Cove Grade School with me, Merle Langley and Helen Langley's uncle Earl T. Langley Sr.
Earl T. Langley Sr., 80, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born June 17, 1929, in Jerseyville, the son of Charles Thomas and Nettie Gertrude (Emerick) Langley, now deceased. He retired after 34 years as parts manager with Tri-County Oliver Implement. He was a lifetime member of Bass Pro.Surviving are his daughter Cathie Bacca of Wake Forest, N.C.; son Earl T. Langley Jr. of Centreville, Va.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merle and Howard Langley; and two sisters, Morelin Quinn and Roxie Langley. Per his request, his body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine and no memorial service will be held at this time. Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Died 09-07-1982. Earl "Barney" Rench, 58, of Hillsboro, formerly of Jerseyville died unexpectedly at 1:40 pm August 7 at the Hillsboro area hospital. Rench, who lived in Jerseyville from 1954-1975 was born January 6, 1924, south of Greenville, the son of Clifford & Myrtle (Hill) Rench. He married Lois M. (brown) Rench, April 20, 1949 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was a truck driver for the North Shore Central truck lines of Litchfield. Rench was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Hillsboro and a member of Teamsters Local 525, Alton. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in Italy. He is survived by his wife Lois, 3 sons, James of Jerseyville, Kevin and Mark of Hilsboro; 1 daughter Mrs. Sharon Young of Pana; 1 sister Iola Thacker of Greenville and 2 grandchildren, Penny Rench of Jerseyville - incomplete.

The obituary of a relative of one my high school classmates who graduated with me in 1961 from Jersey Community High School, Phyllis Jean (Goeman) Frazer's father Henry Goeman who was the husband of my mother Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall's cousin Pearl Devening's daughter Lena (Devening) Goeman.
Henry Goeman, 89, died unexpectedly at 7:41 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at his residence. He was born March 7, 1917, in English Township, the son of Henry and Dora (Hetzel) Goeman. He married the former Lena G. Devening on Oct. 13, 1940, in Elsberry, Mo. They shared nearly 59 years together before her death on June 7, 1999. He was raised on the same farm he currently resided on and farmed his entire life, as well as operated Goeman Trucking. Agriculture was important to him, as he was a member of the Jersey County Farm Bureau, Jersey County Fair Board for many years, serving as the tractor pull supervisor for 25 years, and an original organizer of the former Fieldon Booster Club.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Phyllis Frazer and Bernice and Ronald Guilander, all of Jerseyville; two grandchildren and their spouses, Rhonda and Kerry Hall of Kane, Jeff and Donna Guilander of Jerseyville; five great-grandchildren, Kourtnee, Kurt and Khloee Hall, and Ronnie and Christopher Guilander. In addition to his wife, his parents; a son-in-law, George Frazer; and a sister, Catherine Briggs, preceded him in death. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ, where he was a longtime member, or the Jersey County Health Department.

08-12-1982. Dated 8-24-82: Private services for Joel Collins Moore, 71, of 1203 W. Exchange St., Jerseyville were conducted Monday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home by the Rev. R. E. George. He died at approximately 11 am August 12 at John Cochran Veterans hospital in St. Louis after a lengthy illness. Moore retired in 1975 after serving as an x-ray technician for 21 years at Alton State hospital. He opened a shoe repair shop in Jerseyville which he operated until health forced his retirement in 1980. The World War II Army veteran was born July 20, 1911 in Alton, a son of the late Joel and Christina Belle Collins Moore. His survivors include his wife, Virginia Harp Moore whom he married June 15, 1975; one son, Richard of Pekin; two daughters, Donna Stoner and Joan Maher, Godfrey; two step sons, Charles Harp of Dow and Roger Harp of Ayers, Massachusetta; two step daughters, Annette Wells of Jerseyville and Jeanette Panzier of Fieldon; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul of Godfrey and Mildred Stockton of Alton. The Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducted military rites at the graveside at Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. The American Cancer society has been named as a memorial.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated high school with me from Jersey Community High School in 1961, Delby Darr's father Glen Otis Darr.
Glen Otis Darr, born 26-09-1908, Jersey County, Illinois, died 11-1969, buried Elsah cemetery. Glenn Otis "Boone" Darr, 61, died early Sunday am at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. W. O. Reinhardt of Alton officiated and interment was in Elsah cemetery. Born September 26, 1908 in Jersey County, he was the son of Matthew & Abbie (Delby) Darr. In 1953 Mr. Darr had lost his sight within a month following an accident at his place of employment in an acid explosion. A few years later in 1960, he helped found the Elsah Volunteer Emergency Corps, an organization formed mainly to minimize accidents from river traffic. He had learned receiving and dispatching C-B radio and became the focal point for directing traffic rescues on the river. Mr ----incomplete----
Delby Darr's brother Aaron Lee Darr's obituary - Aaron Lee Darr, born 1948, died 12-03-1970, buried Elsah cemetery. Pfc Aaron Darr, 22, was honored with military service at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W. O. Reinhardt of Alton officiated at the services and burial was in Elsah cemetery. Memorials may be given to the easter seas soc. Pfc Darr of Elsah died in an aircraft crash in Vietnam on March 12. Word that the young serviceman was missing in action was received by his mother, Mrs. Glenn O. Darr of Elsah on Tuesday, March 17, and the following evening confirmation of his death was delivered to the Darr home by army personnel. Pfc. Darr, was a graduate of Jersey Community High School, and was employed by Shell Oil Company before his entry into military service in July, 1969. He had been in Vietnam since December 8 of last year. In the last letter received from the infantryman he told his family that he was near Saigon, that there were no Viet Cong around, and he was doing alright. The death message said that he died in an aircraft crash, leading to the belief that the fatal accident occurred as he was being transported to a different base. His survivors in addition to his mother are 4 Brothers, Delby of Elsah, Glenn O, Jr., of Godfrey, William, who has been in military service for 4 months and is presently stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Gregory of Elsah. The death of his father occurred last Nov.

Born in Hillview November 21, 1922, son of John & Bertha (Hughes) Dawdy and worked in landscape department at Principia college for 27 years. He leaves his wife, Irma (Price) Dawdy, whom he married November 21, 1942 in Jerseyville; 1 son, Richard of Godfrey, 2 Daughters, Judith Hatton of Bethalton and Linda Pyles of Dow, 1 brother, William of Hillview, 1 sister, Frances Cummings of Dow, step mother, Dora Dawdy; 1 step brother, George Alexander and 1 step sister, Eva Cummings all of Dow; 4 grandchildren.

Mary E. Chandler, 60, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at her residence. She was born in Alton Sept. 1, 1948, one of four children born to the late John G. and Dorothy (King) Chandler. She graduated from Jersey Community High School and worked in the packing department at Mead Packaging in Godfrey for many years. She later attended nursing school and cared for her parents in their later years. She is survived by her longtime and loving companion, Sandra Baker of Carrollton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Jackie Chandler of Mattoon and David and Sylvia Chandler of Jerseyville; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Sue Chandler of Jerseyville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John R. Chandler, on March 26, 2003. The body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. She had been in ill health for sometime. Friends called at the Gubser Funeral Home and then at the Gospel Assembly Church where final rites were held Monday afternoon, 25 October at 2 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. Harry Frazer, officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. King was a daughter of the late James and Viola Davis Hawkins and was born in Jersey county 2 May 1902. Her age at the time of death was sixty-three years, five months and nineteen days. Surviving her in addition to her husband are seven children, Mrs. John Chandler, Robert Ralph King, Mrs. George R. Neikirk and Mrs. Gerald Cates of Jerseyville, William L. and Maurice Eugene King of Brighton and Mrs. Arthur Smith of Godfrey; one brother, Howard Hawkins of Calif.; six sisters, Mrs. Fred Bunzy of Brighton, Michigan; Mrs. Jess Boomer of Oregon, Mrs. Esto Shaw of Jerseyville, Mrs. Ora Beard of Godfrey, Mrs. Henry Dawdy of Aurora, and Mrs. Gilbert Greling of Van Dyke, Mich. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Died 28-10-1981. Joseph F. Roth, 89, of Rural Route 4, Jerseyville died at Jersey Community hospital at 4:42 am October 28. He was a retired carpenter. A funeral mass was recited at 10 am Friday, October 30 at St. Francis Xavier church, Father Patrick Morrow was celebrant. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Roth was born November 3, 1891 in Michael, the son of the late Peter & Anna (Klunk) Roth. He married Sadie Hazelwonder June 27, 1922 and she survives. Also surviving are 3 Sons, Alfred of Magalia, California, Loren of Orlando, Florida and Joseph D. of San Diego, California; 4 daughters, Mildred J. Kirbach, Anna Marie Retzer and Janet Klunk all of Jerseyville and Melba Friedel of Bethalto. 1 brother Lawrence of Springfield, 21 grandchildren and 26 g-grandchildren. The rosary was recited at 7 pm October 29 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville after which WWI veteran services. Graveside military rites were conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Died 09-19-1974. Charles Allen Rue, Jr., 54 years, 1 months, 10 days, of 606 E. Carpenter, Jerseyville died at 10:45 pm September 19 at Jersey Community hospital, less than 1 month after his wife Lois M. Bohrman Rue (she died August 21). He was born August 9, 1920 in Jersey County, the son of Charles & Gertrude (Bushnell) Rue, Sr. Rue, was elevator manager for Jersey County Grain Company. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Marilyn) Delp, Mrs. Fred (Linda) Blasa and Mrs. Daniel (Nancy) Green, all of Jerseyville and 1 son Stephen E., at home, and 2 grandchildren, 1 sister Mrs. Helen Baugh, and 1 brother, Robert S. Rue, of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm September 22, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiated, with interment in Oak Grove cemetery.

Died 02-20-1950. Arthur E. Chappell of McClusky, manager of the Jersey County Grain Company in Jerseyville, collapsed and died instantly at six-forty o'clock Monday morning, February 20, at the M & O restaurant in this city. Mr. Chappell had eaten his breakfast and was preparing to leave for his work when he suffered the fatal heart attack. A physician was summoned who pronounced him dead. Mr. Chappell had suffered from a heart ailment for several months and had been hospitalized on several occasions for treatment of the malady. The decedent was a son of the late Elmer and Eunice Long Chappell and was born at Delhi on March 20, 1909. He was aged forty years and eleven months. Mr. Chappell had been in the employ of the Jersey County Grain Company for thirteen years and for the past four years had been manager of the local elevator of the company. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lorraine Chappell, two daughters, Sharon and Sandra, and two sons, Jackie and Cletus, all of McClusky; one brother, Everett Chappell of Jerseyville, and two sisters, Mrs ?? Breitweiser and Mrs. ?? ?? of Delhi. He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell, who was killed August 29, 1949, in an airplane accident at McClusky. Fraternally Mr. Chappell was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodges of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, February 22, at two o'clock at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Jerseyville. Reverend J. Winfred Stoerker officiated at the rites and interment was in the Chappell cemetery.

G'Sell, who preceded her in death in 1984. She dedicated her life to her family, church and community, where she was a longtime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and a volunteer at the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. May, a former hairstylist, was employed for many years with Turn Style/Osco in retail. She was an avid gardener and loved reading, dancing and playing cards. He was a WWII veteran. Born in Carrollton, he was the son of the late Erva Bunt and Althia Odessa (Taylor) Flowers. He married Vera (Hayes) Flowers August 10, 1936, in St. Louis. She died August 2, 2969. She was a bookkeeper and homemaker. She was a member of Women of The Moose. Mary Eva Halter, 85, died at 10:35 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Willow Rose Rehabilitation and Health Care in Jerseyville. She was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Jersey County, daughter of Fred J. and Alta (Simons) Walz. Her marriage to Cornelius Halter took place Sept. 3, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo. He died Aug. 6, 1973. A lifelong resident of Jersey County, she was very proud of her 34 years of dedicated service to Jersey Community Hospital, where she was a nurse’s assistant in their obstetrics department. She took great pride in presenting many newborn babies to their proud parents. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Joann and Harold Koenig of Jerseyville; a son-in-law, Raymond Hess of Genoa, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Halter of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Halter; a daughter, Janet Hess; two grandchildren, Douglas Halter and Laura Koenig; a great-grandson, Anthony Joseph Larson; a brother, Fred Walz; three sisters, Nellie Isringhausen, Balbina Tohill and Irene Ewin; and two half sisters, Minnie Holtmann and Katherine Rice. Glenn E. Isringhausen, 82, formerly of the Jerseyville and Fieldon areas, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Mo. He was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Fieldon, the youngest of eight children of Lewis and Florence (Claflin) Isringhausen. He moved to Moberly in 1969 from the Jerseyville area. He was a farmer and owned and managed investment real estate. He was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ and Masonic Lodge of Fieldon. Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Ollmann Isringhausen of Moberly; a daughter and her husband, Peggy Jo and Don Perdun of Jerseyville; four stepchildren and three spouses, Keith Ollmann of Riverside, Calif., Bobby and Kay Ollman of Cairo, Mo., Julie and Doug Christopher of Depauw, Ind., and Tracy and Scott Smith of Grain Valley, Mo.; three grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Floyd Isringhausen of Fieldon; a sister, Ruby Skinner of Jerseyville; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Marjorie June Colman of Route One, Jerseyville, were held at two-thirty o'clock Monday afternoon at the Warner Funeral Home in Brighton. The Reverend Hugh Wallace of Granite City, former pastor of the Piasa Methodist Church, officiated, assisted by Reverend Sister Blance Baker, present pastor. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. The death of Mrs. Colman occurred at two-ten o'clock Saturday morning at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wainwright of Rural Route, Jerseyville. Mrs. Coleman had been in failing health since undergoing surgery about a year ago and for the past few months has been cared for in the home of her parents. A daughter of Harold and Harriet Voorhees Wainwright, Mrs. Coleman was born March 4, 1922, on the farm where he death occurred. She was married to Clarke Colman who survives, along with two daughters, Mrs. Roger Mourning of Jerseyville and Mrs. Joseph Cangelosi of Rural Route, Jerseyville, one grandchild and her parents. During her early childhood the Wainwright family resided in Kansas City where she was graduated from the Central High School. She was a talented musician and for a number of years was the organist at the Piasa Methodist Church where she was a member. For eight years prior to her illness. Mrs. Coleman held a secretary bookkeeping position with the Kentucky Fried Chicken Company, with operations in St. Louis and Alton.

Died 20-08-1963. Edward Louis Wiist, 54, well known farmer of the Fieldon area, was found crushed beneath a tractor on which he had been working on in a shed at the farm. He had gone from the house around noon to work with some hogs at the farm. When he failed to return for the evening meal members of his family startled looking for him, and a neighbor, Herbert Thomas joined the search. Mr Thomas found Mr Wiist pinioned beneath the tractor. It is believed that the decedent had started to do some work on the heavy piece of machinery and that a jack which had been used to elevate the front end of it had slipped causing the fatal accident. Mr Wiist was born in Fieldon, September 3, 1908, a son of the late William & Theresa (Walz) Wiist. He would have been 55 in 1 month. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Virginia M Wiist; 1 son, William J Wiist, Godfrey; 2 daughters, Mrs Richard (Betty) Wilson, Jerseyville and Miss Marcella Wiist, Fieldon; 1 granddaughter, Joyce Wilson; and 6 sisters, Mrs Louis Hagen, Fieldon, Mrs Margaret Drainer, Wood River, Mrs Pauline Franklin, E Alton, Mrs Dorothy Eyers, Brighton, and Mrs Theresa Klunk and Mrs Mildred Healey, Jerseyville. Unknown newspaper, 1921: Mrs. Mary Albart-Lenz, following an illness of only a few weeks, passed away Thursday morning at 6:20 o'clock at her home on North Liberty Street in this city. The deceased was 74 years, 6 months and 21 days of age. Mrs. Lenz was the daughter of Catherine and Michael Albart, pioneer residents of Jersey county. She was married 30 Apr. 1865 to Joseph Lenz, who preceded her in death on 6 Aug. 1915. The deceased is survived by ten daughters and one son; Mrs. George Hetzel, Mrs. Anna Cummings, Mrs. Albert Hoelker, Misses Christine and Rosie Lenz, Mrs. D. D. Mac Dougal, Mrs. C. P. Atchison, Mrs. O. P. Powel, Mrs. H. R. Bohannan, all of Jersey County; Mrs. Carrie Quante of St. Louis and Charles W. Lenz of Jerseyville; all of whom except Mrs. Quante were with her at the time of her death. A daughter, Mrs. Dorothy L. Pruitt, died 23 April 1920, and five children died in infancy. Mrs. Lenz also leaves a brother, Nicholas Albart of Fidelity township, and a sister, Mrs. Rose Reher of Jerseyville. Funeral services will be held Monday, 22 May at 9:30 am from the Holy Ghost church, of which she has been a devoted member for more than half a century. High mass will be celebrated, Rev. John G. 29 Mar. 1973: Graveside services were conducted Wednesday morning at Oak Grove cemetery for Tina Marie Lott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Lott of Jerseyville, who died at Alton memorial hospital an hour after birth on 26 march. Rev. Everett Chambers, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiated. In addition to her parents she is survived by two brothers, Brad Allen Lott, 5, and Chad Edward Lott, 2. Mrs. Lott is the former Joetta Marie Eisler. Gubser funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who graduated high school with me from Jersey Community High School in 1961, Jack Bland's father Robert Lester Bland.
Robert Lester Bland, born 25-09-1887, Fieldon, Jersey County, Illinois, died 12-10-1956, buried Newbern cemetery. Robert Lester Bland, 69, of Rt 1 Dow, died Oct. 12, at John Cochran veteran's hospital in St. Louis. He had been a patient for 1 day. Funeral services were held from Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville, and moved to Newbern Presbyterian church. Rev Albert F. Moginot, of Alton officiated and burial was in Newbern cemetery. Mr Bland was a son of the late John & Elizabeth (Gunterman) Bland and was born Sept. 25, 1887 at Fieldon. He had ben engaged in farming in Jersey county. He was a veteran of WWI and was a member of Worthey Post, American Legion Post No 492 and the 40 & 8. Surviving are his wife, Blanche Bland; 6 daughter, Mrs. Irene Ely of Alton, Frances, Judy Roberta, Shirley and Betty Bland all at home; 8 sons, Fred Heitzman of Alton, William, Jack, Richard, Larry, Edwin, James and Stanley Bland, at home; 2 incomplete

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Paul McAdams's mother Myrtle M. (Schroeder) McAdams.
Jerseyville - Myrtle M. McAdams, 80, of Bertman Street, died at 4:05 a.m. today at Jersey Community Hospital. Born in Eldred, daughter of the Late William and Augusta (Fischer) Schroeder, she married Robert McAdams and he preceded her in death in 1954. Surviving are two sons, Paul McAdams of Jerseyville, and Harold Secymore of Lynn Center; three daughters, Loretta McCoy of Jerseyville, Barbara Cox of Shipman and Roberta West of East Alton; a stepdaughter, June Herman of Argo, FL; 22 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Russell Schroeder of Lebanon, Mo., Wilbur Schroder of Eldred and Bill Schroeder of White Hall; and a sister, Nina Better of East Alton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lloyd Younkin officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be made to Faith Temple in Jerseyville where she was a member, or New Life Tabernacle at Delhi.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Anna Pickett's mother Mrs. Edna Pickett.
28 April 1950: Mrs. Edna Pickett, wife of Ralph Pickett of Jerseyville, died at four-fifteen o'clock Sunday afternoon, 23 April at St. Joseph hospital in Alton where she had been a patient for several weeks. The deceased was born in Fieldon 16 December 1909, and her age at the time of death was forty years, four months and seventeen days. In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters, Doris, Betty and Anna Pickett of Jerseyville; two Sons, Ralph Pickett and Dallas Gilbert of Jerseyville; two sisters, Mrs. Ira Wilson of Jerseyville and Mrs. Julia Schaaf of Fieldon and three brothers, Woodrow, Henry Lee and Wilbert Ford of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at the Gubser Funeral Home Wednesday, 26 April at two o'clock with Rev. Harry Frazier officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, a son of my sister's first husband from another marriage, Raymond Thompson's father Russell Oliver Thompson.
Russell Oliver Thompson, 85, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Jersey County, one of 11 children of Logan and Viola (Bowers) Thompson. He married the former Hazel Schaaf on Nov. 6, 1943, in Jerseyville. She survives. A resident of Kane for many years, he was employed at the Kane Croft Farm for 21 years until the farm was sold and then began working as a mechanic and driver for Krause and Son Implement Co. in Jerseyville, retiring in 1982, after dedicating 15 years to the business. He was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695 and enjoyed their many activities and meals that he and his wife were able to take part in and was especially proud of his yard and garden. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell Edward Thompson of Wood River and Raymond and Doris Thompson of Fieldon; a daughter and son-in-law, Verna Kay and Perry Ontis of Fieldon; a stepdaughter, Shirley Jean Johnson of Roxana; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Brown of California and Cecile Russell of Godfrey; and two brothers, Herman "Pete" Thompson of Tacoma, Wash., and Donald Thompson of Granite City. Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepdaughter, Edna Mae Farris; three stepgrandchildren, Carl Russell Johnson, Billy Joe Farris and Michael Farris; a sister, Hazel Mae Thompson; and five brothers, Raymond, James, Logan Jr., Charles William and Truman Thompson. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Jon Lobos will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695.

The obituary of a relative of one of my high school classmates who attended high school with me at Jersey Community High School, Jerry Lawler's father William Thomas Lawler.
19 Jun. 1984: A funeral mass for William Thomas Lawler, 78, 204 Goodrich, Jerseyville, was celebrated Friday morning at St. Francis Xavier church with father Patrick Morrow as celebrant. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. He was found dead at his residence at 7:15 am June 13. Born 9 Feb. 1906 in Equality, he was a son of the late Ralph and Elizabeth Fowler Lawler and was a retired steel worker from General Steel Industries in Granite City. Lawler was a member of St. Francis Catholic church and Knights of Columbus, third degree. He is survived by his wife, the former Caterine M. Wargel; three sons, Jerry of Webster Grove, Mo., Alfred of Nashville, Tenn. and William Jr., Sikeston, Mo.; a sister, Mary Hamilton of Wood River; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The rosary was recited Thursday evening at Jacoby Brothers funeral home. The St. Francis organ fund has been named as a memorial.
I will now give the names of some of the children that my parents mentioned that they had for neighbors and went to school with in the early 1900's.
My father was born in 1897 and went to the Pleasant Cove school south of Fieldon from about 1903 to 1911. My mother who was born in 1904 went to the Franklin School from about 1910 to 1918. It was a one room school southeast of Fieldon that was about a mile or so south of Route 100. The road goes south off the highway at the St. Mary's Cemetery. My mother's parents' farm was about 2 miles from the school. Children my mother attended school with were her neighbors, The Wollenwebers children, the parents were Tom and Margaret Warner Wollenweber, and their children were Tom, John, Lesley, Albert, Mamie, Marie, Tillie, Florence, and Bessie. Their farm was across the road from my mother's parents. The Heitzigs also lived near the Franklin School.

Heitzig on December 30, 1996 in Jerseyville; and, Mary K. Heitzig was the oldest citizen of Jersey County, and was thought to be the oldest citizen of the State of Illinois; Mary K. Heitzig was born on April 13, 1885 in Beltrees, Illinois, the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Schmieder; she was united in holy matrimony with Joseph Heitzig in Fieldon on June 3, 1908, and to this union were born eleven children; Mary K. Heitzig was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, as well as being a member of the Altar Society and Quilters Group; Mary K. Heitzig and her husband raised eleven children on a farm outside of Jerseyville; Mrs. Heitzig lived through four wars; saw the origin and ending of the Great Depression; witnessed the advent of microwave ovens, refrigerators, automobiles, airplanes, and electric stoves; and was present at the time women were first allowed the right to vote; Mary K. Heitzig will be remembered by the citizens of Jersey County as a hard working, religious woman who was well respected by her community, her church, her friends, and her family; Mary K. My mother also attended school with the Brockmeyer children, Carl, August, and Anna. Their father Charles Henry Brockmeyer owned a farm that adjoined my Kraushaar grandfather's farm on the west.
My mother also went to school with the Richey children, Vincent (Whiz), Earl, Ida, Alice, Anna, and Helen. Their parents were Joseph Vincent and Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith and they owned a farm in the area. My mother also went to school with Willie Kessler the son of George and Stella (Decker) Kessler. My mother also attended school with the children of Henry Krueger and his wife. The Krueger Children were Albert, Tony, Henry, Frank, Anna, and Lena.
My father attended school at Pleasant Cove School with children of Charles Schaaf who owned the farm next to my grandfather Westfall on the north. Some of the Schaaf children my father knew and went to school with were Isom, Dick, Lester, Henry, Fritz, Raymond, and Frank. Some of the Schaaf families in the Fieldon area my parents knew were: Charles E. Schaaf b. 1878, wife Sophia Young-Children Carrie, Stella, Edna; Charles Louis Schaaf b. 1889, wife Tacie Evelyn White (my teacher)-Children George Edward; Edward Schaaf b. 1859 wife Ellen Powers-Children William, Mary E., Eda, Lewis, Lawrence, Emma, Christena; Frank Schaaf b. 1881, wife Tina Young-Children Lawrence, Mark, Bertha, Cora, Raymond, Thelma; Leroy Schaaf b. 1883, wife Wilma Thomas-children Laura.
My father also went to school with the Kirchner children, or at least he knew them well. Their parents were Benjamin and Susan (Davenport) Kirchner. The Kirchner children were Ed, George, Elmer, Emma, Nellie, Margaret, Rosie, Lulu, and Alice (who married Justus Russell, his first wife). They lived in the Rosedale area.
There were also a number of other families in the area who may have gone to different rural one room schools in area, but that my parents knew the children well. There was the Earl and Effie Fraley family who had a farm near my mother's parents. Their children were Stewart (who later owned a farm near our farm), Wilbur, Stanley, and Bertha (who married William Heraty). They may have gone to a nearby school in the Union Forest area. The Whites of the Union Forest area were among the earliest settlers in the area. They have their own White Cemetery with ancestors dating back to the beginning of Jersey County. The White children that my parents knew well were Roy, George, Nola (who married Oscar Henson), Tacie (1896-1950 who was my first grade teacher at Pleasant Cove and also taught my mother at Franklin School), and Rosie White. Tacie was the daughter of George and Rose (Bray) White. The Springman's and Henson's were also early settlers in the area. My parents knew Margaret Springman, and John and Gladys (Henson) Springman, Hazel Springman, Howard Springman, and Oscar and Nola (White) Henson, the parents of Gladys (Henson) Springman. Also the Stamps were prominent farmers in the Union Forest area, Leslie and Amelia and their children.
Other families in and around the Fieldon, Otter Creek, Union Forest, and Rosedale area that my parents knew and sometimes mentioned were -- Hagan, Ridenour, Tucker, Levine, Wedding, Biermann, Schmieder, Perdun, Morrison, Becker, Kallal, Goetten, Groppel, Brueggemann, Breitweiser, Fulkerson, Lofton, Ontis, Wadlow, Ferguson, Castor, Johnson, Maltimore, Dawson, Powers, Plummer, Fleming, Narup, Haun, Ayers, Pruitt, Houseman, Reddish, Foster, Tonsor, McKinney, Hansen, Kessler, Wheaton, Wieneke, Wagner, Pieper, Gerson, Baker, Wallkoff, Gunterman, Ringhausen, Isringhausen, Devening.
Other families my parents knew were - Frazer (Harry Frazer was a minister my parents knew well), Smith (Harry Smith owned an automobile dealership in Jerseyville, and my father knew him and his wife Dorothy well, and bought a number of vehicles from him over the years), Yates (Olen Yates had a large orchard near Otter Creek and our farm, and my parents and I knew him well and often worked in his apple orchard packing shed), Evans (Raymond Evans of Fieldon was a good friend of my parents, and Ward "Cobb" Evans of Fieldon worked with my father at the Fieldon Quarry), Delp (The Delps were related to my mother), Cope (George Cope was our barber in Jerseyville and often hunted at our farm), Freand (related to my mother), Young (Evelyn Young was married to my Uncle Raymond Kraushaar, my mother's brother) Godar (Alfred Godar married my cousin Viola Griffin, who was my Aunt Anna (Westfall) Griffin's daughter, The Godar family were early settlers in the Calhoun County area), Wanick (My Uncle Floyd Westfall married Bertha Wanick, the daughter of Julius and Lola Cornelius Wanick), Schlansker (my father worked for John Schlansker in a sawmill in the Rosedale Township area in the 1930's 0r 40's), Matthews (They lived in the Nutwood area, T. K. Matthews bought my grandparent's farm after they died, then my parents bought the farm from him in about 1941 0r 1942).
Dr. Brewster (Dr. Bert Marion Brewster) - (1882-1957) - was a long time physician in the Fieldon area from about 1907 to 1937 when he moved to Jerseyville and continued his practice there until his death in 1957. He was my Westfall grandparent's physician), Dr. Peisker (Hardin physician Dr. J. H. Pliester) was a long time physician in the Calhoun and Jersey County area in the early 1900's to the 1960's. He was our family physician, and helped deliver me at my birth in our farmhouse south of Fieldon in 1943), Anderson (Jim Anderson was married to my Aunt, the former Laura Westfall, and they had a daughter Frances. Jim Anderson's parents lived in the Calhoun County area), Thompson (Russell Thompson, the son of Mr and Mrs. Logan Thompson was married to my sister Mildred, and they had a son Russell my nephew), Blackorby (Louis Blackorby married my second cousin Pamela Wahl), Driver (Lester and Stella Driver and their children were our neighbors at one time, and lived in a house across from our farmhouse over by the spring), Reed (Arleigh Reed married my cousin Frances (Anderson) Reed, the daughter of my Aunt, the former Laura Westfall, my father's younger sister. Arleigh's parents lived in Calhoun County, near Kampsville).
The Dabbs family were also early settlers in the Otterville area. Morris Dabbs, Sherman, and Arthur Dabbs had farms in the Otter Creek area and my parents knew the well. Arthur Dabbs married my mother's cousin Frances Walker. Morris Dabbs was our road commissioner. The Pearl Scott family were also close friends and neighbors of my parents for number of years. They once owned the farm that Stewart Fraley bought. They later moved to the Rosedale area. Their children were Edward, Bob, Dale, and a daughter who married a Niemeyer who's name I have forgotten.
The Talley family, George and Gertrude Parker Talley and their children also had a close relationship with our family. They live on a farm north of Fildon and later moved to Nutwood and attended the Nutwood Church that we attended. Their children were George, Charles, Marvell, Armeda, Lola Mae, Vivian, Deloris, Beatrice, Frances, Elene, and Wilma. Deloris, Frances, and Wilma married cousins of mine. Deloris married my Uncle Lonny's son Donald, Frances married my Uncle Jasper's son Jasper Jr., and Wilma married my cousin Aunt Anna's son Harold Griffin.
My parents also had close friendship with the Russell family who's father was a Holiness minister during the early 1900's in the Fieldon & Nutwood area. His children were Justus Russell (his second wife Olivia was pastor at the Nutwood Church we attended), and George, Charles, Harold, Paul, and Maggie were the other Russell children. My parents were also close to the Hewitt family who had a farm in the Union Forest area near Otter Creek. Their son Bill Hewitt married my mother's sister Freda, and their other son Leonard was a close friend of my father growing up. Other Hewitt children were another son Fred, and daughters Maggie, Martha, and Kate. My parents were also good friends with Bob Martin who ran the grocery store in Fieldon for many years.
