My Uncle (Alonzo) Lonnie Westfall's Family

On this page I would like to give you some more detailed information about my Uncle Lonny Westfall's family. Uncle Lon was my father's oldest brother. Uncle Lon was born 4-13-1895 and he died 9-20-1970. He was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. He was born near McClusky in Jersey County, IL, and raised on his father Jasper Mifflin Westfall's farm south of Fieldon, IL with his brothers and sisters-my father Edward, Jasper Jr., Floyd, Laura, and Anna. He had 9 children-2 from his first wife Martha Thomas, Lillie Irene Westfall born abt. 1917 in Jersey Co., IL, died 9-6-1993 in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL. Lillie (or Lily, Lilly) married Floyd Hetzel 6-16-1935 in Jersey County, IL, the son of George and Catherine (Lenz) Hetzel, and they had one son Francis Hetzel born abt. 1935 in Jersey County, IL, died abt. 2013 in Florida, married (wife's name unknown) and had 9 children. Lillie later married Harold Cail in Florida. His other daughter was Goldie Helen Westfall who married Carl Feyerabend. They had no children. Goldie died 12-23-1992 in Jerseyville at age of 73. Goldie and her husband Carl Feyerabend were both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL.

Alonzo (Lonnie/Lonny) Westfall Sr's obituary - Lonny Westfall, a retired farmer of Fieldon died Sunday September 20, 1970 at Jersey Community Hospital. He was born in Jersey County on April 13, 1895, a son of the late Jasper and Frances McCaulley Westfall. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harold Call of Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Carl Feyerabend of Jerseyville; two sons, Lonnie Westfall of Tampa and Donald Westfall of Fieldon; three brothers, Ed Westfall and Jasper Westfall of Fieldon and Floyd Westfall of Medora; two sisters, Mrs. William Pitts of Jerseyville and Mrs. Joseph Coleman of Alton; one half-sister, Eva Haag of Alton; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Antone Maggos of Alton. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Lonnie had 5 sons and 2 daughters from his second wife Frances Ellen "Fanny" Thomas (5-26-04 to 5-6-90), Martha's sister. Frances and Martha were the daughters of Marshall and Lena Sarah (Schmidt) Thomas-Their son's were Lonnie Jr. and Donald, Phillip, Paul, and Francis. Their son Donald Leon Westfall was born 5-14-1929, and died 11-14-1982. He married Deloris Beula Talley in 1951, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Parker) Talley, and they had a son Dwight Lee Westfall born 5-6-1963 and daughter Donna Jean Westfall born 5-1-1959 who live in the Alton IL area. Their son Dwight Lee Westfall Sr. is married and has a son Dwight Lee Westfall Jr. born 5-23-1985. Dwight Lee Westfall Sr.'s son Dwight Lee Westfall Jr. and Bobbi Jo Sanders have a daughter Makaela Jean Westfall born 6-13-2003. Donald Westfall worked at the flour mill in Alton. He died suddenly of cardiac arrest. After Donald Westfall's death his wife Deloris remarried to Leon Stone in 1985. Deloris died 11-15-2001 in Alton, IL after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL.

Uncle Lon and Aunt Frances's son Lonnie Marshall Westfall (born 5-3-1925) died in Belleview, Florida 9-23-2003. He was in the U. S. Military Service and was a World War II Veteran. He was married to Ida Mae Pickett (they had 2 children, Joyce Ann Westfall and Terry Marshall Westfall-both now deceased). Ida Mae (Pickett) Young died 2-5-2001 at age 73 in Tacoma, Wash. Later Lonnie married Flossy Waters (they had 2 children Debbie Westfall and Becky Westfall). My Uncle Lon and Aunt Frances's other sons Phillip Frank Westfall was born 9-19-1932 and died 2-1-1947, and Paul Edward Westfall (born 1927) died when a baby, and another son Francis Wayne Westfall (born 11-26-1947). He married Judy Ann Rose and they had 2 children, Wayne Westfall and Chasity Westfall.

Uncle Lon Westfall and Aunt Frances (Thomas) Westfall's daughter Viola Mae Westfall was born 3-8-1941, and died 2-14-2011 at the home of her daughter in Tampa, FL. She was laid to rest in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Tampa, FL. She married Virgil L. Dearing (born 9-12-1939, died 11-14-2017), and they had 4 children-Virgil Lee Dearing (born 10-27-1957) married Wendy Marie Davis Homer (born 8-17-1952), guardians of Robert Gregory Sorenson (Bubba)-Wendy's grandchild from her daughter Shannon. Wendy also has a son, Gregory Whited. Virgil and Viola Mae (Westfall) Dearing's eldest son Virgil Lee Dearing died Sept. 16, 2006. He was only 48. His funeral was 9-21-2006 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, IL.

Another son of Viola Mae Westfall and Virgil Dearing is William Alan Dearing (born 6-28-1959) married Brigitte Doris John (born 4-19-1958). They had a son Benjamin Alan Dearing Shepherd (born 2-21-1981). Later William Alan Dearing married Lisa Rose Aronson (born 11-24-1963). They have a daughter Melissa Lynn Dearing (born 5-20-1984) and son Michael William Dearing (born 8-17-1987).

The daughter of Viola Mae Westfall and Virgil Dearing-Wendy Ann Dearing (born 10-25-1963) married Everett Clifton Doten III (born 8-29-1961) son of Everett Clifton Doten II and Lorraine Eleanore Sanchez. They have a daughter-Danielle Grei Doten (born 10-15-1988). They live in the Tampa, FL area.

The other son of Viola Mae Westfall and Virgil Dearing-Wesley Leon Dearing (born 11-22-1966, died 4-20-2012), married Anne Finch (born 9-1-1944).

Alonzo (Lonnie) Westfall and Frances (Thomas) Westfall's daughter Viola Mae (Westfall) Dearing's obituary - Dearing, Viola Mae, 69 of Tampa, Fl passed away on February 14, 2011 peacefully with her family surrounding her. She was preceded in death by her son, Virgil Lee Dearing, Jr. Viola is survived by her beloved husband, Virgil of 53 years; daughter, Wendy Doten and husband Dody; sons, Bill Dearing and wife Lisa and Wesley Dearing and wife Anne; grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan, Melissa, Jessica, Michael and Danielle; great grandchildren, Jonathan Jr and Allison. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 6-8 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave. Tampa, Fl. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Virgil and Viola Mae (Westfall) Dearing's son Wesley Leon Dearing's obituary - Wesley Leon Dearing, 45, of Tampa, FL, passed away April 20, 2012, peacefully with his family surround-ing him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Viola Mae; and brother, Virgil, Jr. Wesley is survived by his beloved wife, Anne; father, Virgil L. Dearing, Sr.; sister, Wendy Doten and husband, Dody; brother, Bill Dearing and wife, Lisa; stepson, Daniel Canada and partner, Dan McCarthy Jr.; stepson, Kenny Stoertz; step-grand-children, Danielle and Joshua Stoertz; and many nephews, nieces and a great-nephew and great-niece. A celebration of life will take place May 5, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at Zachary's Pub, 4901 W. Linebaugh Avenue, Tampa, FL.

Virgil and Viola Mae (Westfall) Dearing's daughter Wendy Ann (Dearing) Doten's husband Everett Clifton Doten III's father Everett C. Doten II's obituary - Doten, Everett C. II "Dody," born August 24, 1937, in Plymouth, Mass., passed away from Lewy Body Dementia, April 23, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyfton Orlin and Sarah Elizabeth Owens Doten. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lorraine "Raine" Doten; son, Dody and his wife, Wendy; son, John and his wife, Lisa; son, Chris; and granddaughter, Danielle, all of Tampa. He is also survived by his two brothers, Elmer Lawrence of Abington, Mass., and Clyfton Orlin of Plymouth; his uncle, George and his wife, Ramona Card Doten of Portland, Conn.; as well as a brother and sister-in-law; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Dody graduated from Plymouth High School in 1955, and then spent the summer playing the bass fiddle on Block Island, R.I., where he met his future wife. Dody then joined the U.S. Air Force as a radar operator. Upon leaving the Air Force, he furthered his education by attending Berkley Preparatory School in Boston, Mass., and Bedford Institute of Technology in New Bedford, Mass. Dody and Raine moved to Florida, where he went to work for GTE. He retired as a system engineer in 1997. Since retirement, as well as throughout his life, he has played the bass fiddle for several bands. He most recently participated with the Swing Sound Orchestra, The Sun City Center Big Band, The Ten O' Clock Band and the Blue Notes. A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2011, at Bethel Assemblies of God, 1510 W. Hillsborough Ave., Tampa. Geraldine Westfall is the other daughter of my Uncle Lon Westfall and Aunt Frances (Thomas) Westfall, and she was born 12-27-1942 in Jerseyville, Jersey Co., IL. She died May 27, 2010, at her residence in Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL. Her burial was at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL. She married Gerald Hederick December 1, 1962. He was born 7-23-1937 in Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL, and died 7-6-1999 in Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL. They had no children.

Alonzo (Lonnie) Westfall and Frances (Thomas) Westfall's daughter Geraldine (Westfall) Hederick's obituary - Geraldine Hederick, 67, of Springfield died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at her residence. She was born December 27, 1942, in Jerseyville, IL, the daughter of Lon & Frances Thomas Westfall. She married Gerald Hederick on December 1, 1962, and he preceded her in death on July 6, 1999. She also was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers; and a nephew. She is survived by 1 sister, Viola Dearing; 1 brother, Francis Westfall; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Geraldine was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Alonzo (Lonnie) Westfall Sr's 2nd wife Frances Ellen (Thomas) Westfall's obituary - Frances Ellen Westfall died May 6, 1990 at Carlinville Area Hospital. Born May 26, 1904 in Jerseyville, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Lena Schmidt Thomas. Surviving are two sons, Lonny Westfall of Tampa, Florida and Francis Westfall of Zephyr Hills, Florida; two daughters, Viola Dearing of Land 0 Lakes, Florida and Geraldine Hederick of Springfield; two step-daughters, Lilly Hetzel of Florida and Goldie Feyerabend of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three sons, Donald, Paul and Phillip Westfall; a brother, Herbert Thomas and two sisters, Martha Sprowell and Wilma Schaaf. Visitation is from 11 a.m. Wednesday until service time at 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
